American Backsliders in the Philippines explores ancient myths and history and how they are making themselves known through the most unlikely sources of b-movies , graphic novels, and telenovelas.

This video focuses on the creation myth of the Philippines, with special attention paid to how suppressed myth and history can unconsciously appear in b-movies like Eddie Romero's Blood Island series and Daughter's of Satan, directed by Hollingsworth Morse. and starring Tom Selleck.

Although I am narrating this video, most of the movie will feature subject matter experts, writers, artists, producers, and residents of the Philippines.

In this excerpt, we explore the creation myth of the Philippines which begins with Man and Woman created as equal partners. The myths would later be suppressed by Spanish colonizers but, as the centuries go by, we learn that you can't keep a good myth down!

My current documentary, Wrestling Then and Now, is currently streaming on Tubi, Plex, and where other fine movies are streamed. My hope is for American Backslider's in the Philippines to join it where other fine international movies are shown.
